The Simca Alvorada was a cheaper version of the Simca Chambord Brazil , the first model that Simca do Brasil built in Brazil . The Chambord Brazil was a luxury vehicle and largely corresponded to the French version of the Chambord based on the Simca Vedette . From March 1959, the Chambord Brazil was manufactured with an enlarged engine, 3-speed gearbox with steering wheel gearshift and initially from parts imported from France. The sedan was produced in various versions and shapes (including the Alvorada) by Simca's Brazilian subsidiary at their plant in São Bernardo do Campo , Brazil , until 1969 .
Alvorada - the name of vengeance
The Simca Alvorada was a radically stripped-down version of the noble Chambord Brazil and the result of an order by the Brazilian government of President Juscelino Kubitschek . Every automobile manufacturer in Brazil had to offer an inexpensive basic version of its respective model series. The idea behind it was to give as many Brazilians as possible the opportunity to own a car.
This was welcome news for Volkswagen , which could easily offer a cheaper version of the VW Beetle , as it was already available in Europe . In contrast to Europe, however, Simca do Brasil managed to position itself as a luxury class manufacturer in Brazil. Therefore, they were not at all happy about the plans and only reluctantly decided to create an entry-level version of the Chambord. So, technically the same, a stripped-down version appeared in 1963 with only two colors as an option, gray or yellow, without any chrome and decorations and a very simple interior design. As a silent protest, this car was named after the presidential palace in the capital Brasília : Palácio da Alvorada . Only 378 copies were built and in 1965 the Alvorada was replaced by the even more reduced Simca Profissional .
