The Simca-Fiat 6 CV (also Fiat 6 CV F ) is a passenger car of the lower middle class , the French automobile manufacturers SAFAF produced from the 1932nd

The car, directly derived from the Fiat 508 Balilla , owes its market success to the manufacturer's courageous decision to present it in a time of economic depression, and especially to the quality of work of its designers, who created a lower middle class car with upper class attributes at moderate prices.

history

The project is the work of engineers like Nebbia , Fessia , Giacosa and Zerbi . The new model was on 12 April 1932 on the Motor Show in Milan presented.

Production of the car began on September 18, 1932 in the factory in Levallois under the name Fiat 6 CV F (F for France). The model received its type approval on September 20, 1932. The second series was manufactured in the new factory in Nanterre from July 1934 and was the first model of the new Simca-Fiat brand .

Like the Fiat 508 Balilla, the Fiat 6 CV F had a three-speed gearbox. His petrol engine, type Fiat 108, was installed in the front; it was a four-cylinder in - line engine with a displacement of 995 cm³, which made 20 hp (15 kW) at 3400 rpm. The car had drum brakes on all 4 wheels and reached a top speed of 80 km / h.

This first version was replaced two years later by the second series with a four-speed gearbox, an engine with 24 hp (17.6 kW) and a new aerodynamic body with two or four doors.

Production in France from 1932 to 1937 produced 26,472 copies, an extraordinary number at the time.

The two series and their body variants

The Simca-Fiat 6 CV was produced in two series from 1932 to 1937:

  • The vehicles of the first series had a three-speed transmission and a conventional body similar to that of the Fiat 509 that they were replacing.
  • In contrast, the second series had a more aerodynamic body and a four-speed gearbox.

The two series were available in a large number of body styles: sedans , roadsters , military models, sports roadsters and Mille Miglia models. As was customary at the time, many wheelwright shops built the factory chassis according to their ideas. The most important coachbuilders were Garavini , Savio , Balbo , Bertone , Casaro and Ghia .

The successor to the Simca-Fiat 6 CV was the Simca 8 .

Others

The Fiat 508 (1st version) served as a template for the draftsman André Franquin for the car of his hero Gaston in a fictional, yellow version with black and white diamonds, described as a real soap box that was constantly broken ... Others see the polemical representation rather the Fiat 509 , as the two models look similar.
