Tour de France for automobiles 1976
The 1976 Tour de France for automobiles was held as a stage race for automobiles from September 17th to 24th in France .
In the previous year, the Tour Auto was held according to new regulations that dispensed with the many mountain and circuit races. The tour was thus also contested in 1976 as a stage drive, in which, like a rally, special stages determined the rating. It started in Nancy and led over almost 4000 km and the stage locations Mâcon , Orléans , Tarbes and La Grande-Motte to Nice. 119 participants - who had to pass 17 special tests - started. 50 reached the goal.
The race started out as a duel between Lancia Stratos driver Jean-Claude Andruet and Jean Ragnotti , who drove an Alpine A310 with a V6 engine . After the two protagonists retired, Guy Fréquelin led a Porsche Carrera for a long time . After an accident by Fréquelin just before the end, his colleague Jacques Henry won the race. As in the previous year, Christine Dacremont secured the women’s standings, who finished sixth in the overall standings with her Alpine A310.
