Tour de France for automobiles 1975

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1975 Tour de France for automobiles was held as a stage race for automobiles from September 15 to 23 in France .

In 1975, the Tour Auto organizers broke with the tradition of holding special stages as mountain and circuit races . Up until the previous year, long-distance races on racetracks were not uncommon. In 1975 special stages like rallies were introduced, whereby the tour lost a large part of its character. But the form of the stage race was retained. The race started in Nice and led back to the starting point via Nîmes , Bourg-en-Bresse , Caen , Albi and La Grande-Motte . 127 participants - a record starter field - had to complete 22 special tests over 4200 km. 59 reached the destination in southern France.

The race was dominated by Bernard Darniche in a Lancia Stratos which, until he retired, only Jean Égreteaud in a Porsche 911 could follow. Christine Dacremont won the women’s ranking on an Alpine A310 , who finished sixth in the overall ranking.
