Hernando "Nano" da Silva Ramos (born December 7, 1925 in Paris ) is a former French-Brazilian racing driver.

Career

Gordini type 32

Da Silva Ramos was born in France to a wealthy Brazilian businessman and a French mother . Therefore had both Brazilian and French citizenship. His father had already contested car races in a Bugatti in the 1930s . Nano's racing career began in small races in Brazil in 1947 and later continued in Europe , where he acquired an Aston Martin for sports car racing .

He took part in the automobile world championship in 1955 and 1956, in Gordini cars . These French cars were clearly inferior to the Mercedes-Benz and Ferraris of that era and da Silva Ramos was rarely able to show his true skills, but two eighth places in Zandvoort and Reims showed his considerable driving potential. He achieved his best result at the 1956 Monaco Grand Prix with a fifth place. After that, he occasionally competed in sports car races until 1959, before retiring from motorsport . Da Silva Ramos now lives in Neuilly-sur-Seine .
