Virginio "Gino" Munaron (born April 2, 1928 in Turin , † November 22, 2009 in Valenza ) was an Italian racing driver .

Career

Munaron was one of the best sports car drivers from 1955 to 1965 . In the 1950s he was a works driver for Ferrari , Maserati and OSCA . He won the sports car race in Hyeres for Ferrari in 1955 , finished third in the Pescara race and fourth in Bari . In a Ferrari 250 GT he finished third in the 1957 12-hour race in Reims, driving alone .

Munaron made his debut in the automobile world championship on an aging Maserati 250F at the 1960 Argentine Grand Prix . Eight laps behind the winner Bruce McLaren , Munaron finished 13th in the race. Back in Europe, he drove the Cooper T51 of the Scuderia Eugenio Castellotti with little success in several world championship races .

He continued to drive sports and touring car races until the mid-1960s. Together with Andrea de Adamich, he finished fifth in the 1965 Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race .
