Camoradi Racing , an acronym for Casner Motor Racing Division , was an American racing team.

The racing team

The company, which was founded by Lloyd Casner in 1959 , became famous for using the Maserati Birdcage in sports car races in the United States and Europe. In 1960 the team came to Le Mans with the Italian vehicles to contest the 24-hour race . However, none of the three vehicles used reached the destination. The car driven by Chuck Daigh and Masten Gregory also failed due to electrical damage, as did the vehicle with starting number 24, driven by Giorgio Scarlatti and Gino Munaron . Casner himself and teammate Jim Jeffords failed early on due to a gearbox damage. A Chevrolet Corvette also used by Camoradi (one of the drivers was Fred Gamble ) crossed the finish line, but was not classified because the gap to the winner was too great. It was the only appearance of the team at Le Mans.

The filigree Maserati could also be driven to victories. In 1960 Camoradi won the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring with Dan Gurney and Stirling Moss , although the Maserati suffered from a broken fuel line at half time. This success was repeated in 1961, this time with masters Gregory and Casner at the wheel. It was at this time that New Zealand mechanic Bob Wallace was preparing the Camoradi cars.

The team was not very successful in Formula 1 . The Tec-Mec-Maserati , with which Fritz d'Orey contested the US Grand Prix in 1959 , was a bad design and dropped out early. Masten Gregory also failed in two attempts in 1960 and 1961.

The team disbanded in 1963 and Lloyd Casner died in April 1965 during test drives at Le Mans.
