Alfred Graham Whitehead (born April 15, 1922 in Harrogate , † January 15, 1981 in Lower Basildon ) was a British racing driver .

Career

Graham was the half-brother of Peter Whitehead and began racing in 1951 using his brother's borrowed ERA . Graham also had some good placings in motorsport, but he did not come close to the successes of his popular brother.

In 1952, Graham Whitehead drove his only Grand Prix that had world championship status. This year the Grand Prix races were held according to the Formula 2 regulations . Graham started the race with an Alta F2 at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone from twelfth place on the grid (32 cars were at the start) and finished twelfth, five laps behind.

Graham drove a plethora of sports car races, mostly as his brother Peter's co-driver. He moved Jaguar vehicles as fast as Aston Martins and Ferraris . He celebrated his greatest success in 1958 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans . With his brother Peter, who had already won the race with Peter Walker in 1951 , he finished second in an Aston Martin DB3 / S behind the Ferrari duo Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien .

Just a few weeks later, with Graham at the wheel, the two had a fatal accident at the Tour de France for automobiles . Peter was killed and Graham suffered serious injuries. That practically ended his career. In 1960 he drove a few races in a Ferrari 250 and finally resigned in 1961.
