Book title Pilgrim's staff of the Catholic Christian by Aegidius Müller, 1898

After completing his studies, Müller was ordained a priest on September 1, 1858 , and in 1859 received his first job as a chaplain at Rossberg Castle near Bonn. In 1861 he became vicar in Teveren and then worked in Gladbach near Düren. From 1871 he was pastor in Immekeppel (today part of Overath ). Müller spent his twilight years in the Augustinian monastery in Cologne.

During the Kulturkampf in 1873, Müller was summoned to the Cologne Zuchtpolizeigericht and locked in the police prison for two weeks after the mayor of Bensberg , Wachendorff, had denounced him for allegedly inflammatory sermons "as particularly zealous in working for ultra-montanism ". Wachendorff referred to the so-called pulpit paragraph of 1871, which forbade clergymen to comment on state affairs.

Müller researched the home history of the areas in which he was active. His books are still traded today.
