from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hildegund von Meer (von Mehre), also Hildegund, Hildegundis ; also von Lidtberg (Liedberg), von Are (von Ahr) (* around 1115; † February 6, 1183 in the Meer Monastery ), was the founder in 1165 and then the first abbess of the Sea Premonstratensian Monastery , located in today's Meerbusch .

Life

Hildegund was a daughter of Count Hermann von Lidtberg ( Liedberg ) and his wife Hedwig (Hadwigis) and was probably born between 1110 and 1115. Hildegund still had two sisters: Gertrud and Elisabeth, married Randerath . After Hermann's death, Hedwig and her daughter Gertrud went to the Premonstratensian monastery in Dünnwald .

Hildegund was married to Lothar von Are from the dynasty of the Counts of Are and had two sons with him, Dietrich (also Theoderich) and Hermann, and a daughter Hadwig (also Hadwiga, Hadwigis). After her husband Lothar and a short time later her son Dietrich died, she founded the Mehre (More, Meere) monastery in 1165, after she had made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem (according to other sources, Rome), which she is under the direction of the provost Ulrich von Steinfeld handed over. In founding the monastery, she was supported by her daughter Hadwig and her son Hermann, who had gone to the Kappenberg monastery and was provost there from 1171 to 1210 .

Hildegund was the first abbess of the monastery. Your foundation was confirmed in 1166 by Archbishop Reinald of Cologne and Pope Alexander III. issued a bull in their favor in 1179 .

Hildegund died on February 6, 1183, her daughter Hadwig was her successor in the management of the monastery. Hildegund was never officially canonized. Nonetheless, she and her daughter were always considered to be “Venerabilis” (venerable) within the order and are known in the region as “Blessed Hildegundis”. Her feast day is February 6th.

The name Hildegundis has established itself within the city of Meerbusch . Since January 1, 2010, Hildegundis von Meer has been the patroness of the northern Meerbuscher parishes of St. Stephanus (Lank-Latum) , St. Franziskus (Strümp) and St. Nikolaus (Osterath) together with the vicarages of St. Cyriakus (Nierst), St. Martin (Langst-Kierst) and St. Pankratius (Ossum) forced merged parish. Furthermore, two streets and a senior center in Meerbusch bear her name. The Hildegundweg in Cologne-Dünnwald, in the immediate vicinity of the former Premonstratensian monastery, also bears her name.
