Albert Seven Mornings

Albert Siebenmorgen (born December 15, 1894 in Rösrath , † November 2, 1978 in Borken ) was a German photographer , painter , local researcher and teacher.

Life

Albert Siebenmorgen grew up with his twin brother Heinrich and two sisters on a farm in Kirschheiderbroich in Rösrath. He became a teacher and came to Immekeppel in 1919 after serving as an officer in the First World War . He stayed at the Catholic elementary school there until 1962, only interrupted by military service in World War II from 1940 to December 15, 1944, his fiftieth birthday.

Albert Siebenmorgen and his wife Paula had a son and a daughter. Paula Siebenmorgen died in 1972. The daughter brought her seriously ill father to Borken in Westphalia in 1977. Siebenmorgen and his wife are buried in the cemetery in Immekeppel.

Artistic and scientific activities

In addition to his work as a teacher, Siebenmorgen exercised artistic and scientific activities.

As a nine-year-old he made a camera obscura . His father gave the ten-year-old a camera he had bought, which the boy improved himself after a few months. All his life he found the advertising slogan confirmed: "Those who take photos have more out of life!"

He has been described as the "painter of the Bergisches Land ". In the course of his life he painted more than 360 pictures and many drawings, the landscape pictures only after a detailed study of the sources. Some of his paintings have been sold in the USA. Since November 2013, eleven paintings from private collections have been on permanent loan to the public in Overath City Hall .

He observed the weather for decades and recorded his observations for the German Weather Service since 1936 . For this activity he was awarded the Medal of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1976. Many of his publications deal with the weather in the Bergisches Land.

He carried out his astronomical observations with telescopes he made himself , such as the solar eclipse of June 29, 1927.

He also published articles and maps as a local researcher, draftsman and cartographer. Many of his publications appeared in the local press and in the Rheinisch-Bergisch calendar . In the yearbooks from 1925 to 1931, the calendars are adorned with twelve drawings Seven Mornings, in which he worked out the characteristics of the individual months.

Siebenmorgen was one of the authors of the homeland book 800 Years Immekeppel from 1966. He also designed the cover for the book.

Siebenmorgen was an avid mountaineer . He spent many holidays in the Alps. At the age of 77 he climbed the Rimpfischhorn (4,199 meters), at 78 the Breithorn (4,164 meters) and at 80 years old the Alphubel (4,206 meters).

Film portrait

On September 2, 1976, the ZDF broadcast a one-hour portrait of the versatile teacher, artist and scientist, designed by Karlheinz Rehbach, one of the many students at Seven Mornings.
