Iris Biba-Pöschl

Iris Biba-Pöschl (until her marriage in 1999 Iris Biba ; born May 27, 1964 in Freigericht ) is a former German long-distance runner .

Sports career

Biba started athletics as a child. The first club was the DJK Freigericht . She later started for TV Gelnhausen .

At the 1986 European Championships in Stuttgart she was the youngest German participant and came eleventh in the 3000 meter run .

In 1987 she became German cross-country champion .

In 1989 she was able to repeat this title. At the sports festival in Oslo she set a German record over 10,000 meters , took the German championship title over this distance as well as in the 15 km road race and won the Frankfurt Marathon .

In 1991 she was at the 1991 World Championships in Athletics in Tokyo Ninth Marathon . In the same year she had previously won over 10,000 meters at the German Championships . She was also the winner of the road race at the World Team.

In 1996 she qualified for the Olympic Games in Atlanta with a third place in the Rome Marathon , but a torn ligament prevented her participation. In autumn she came second in the Berlin Marathon .

At the marathon of the World Athletics Championships 1997 in Athens she was sixth. After that, injuries kept bothering her, but she was third in the Hanover Marathon in 1998 and fourth in the Berlin Marathon .

In 1999 she came second in the Cologne Marathon .

2000 prevented another injury ( tendon tear ) to participate in the Olympic Games in Sydney .

In 2001 she won the age group W35 as fourth of the German championships in the 10 km run, and also in the following year as third overall. In 2002 she also came second in the Berlin Women's Run .

In 2003 she suffered from a heel spur .

In 2004, her competitive sports career came to an abrupt end when she was attacked by a German shepherd dog running free and seriously injured.

With a height of 1.68 m, she had a competition weight of 49 kg.

Doping allegations

In 1992, during a routine check at the training camp in Portugal, traces of anabolic steroids were found, whereupon she was suspended for three years for doping . Iris Biba denies to this day that she ever knowingly used illicit drugs. The values ​​are due to a mistaken use of a sleeping pill that she received from her trainer.

Private

She has an older brother and a twin sister and lives with her husband Patrick in Mömbris, Lower Franconia .
