Lambach is a French commune with 508 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Sarreguemines arrondissement and is part of the Northern Vosges Natural Park .
geography
Lambach is located in the Bitscher Land ( Pays de Bitche ) in the northeast of the historic Lorraine region , west of Bitche in the valley of the Swallow , at the confluence of two side valleys. The Glasenberg district is embedded at the upper end of the eastern side valley .
After the German city of Saarbrücken in the northwest, you drive about 45 kilometers.
The streams have cut into the sandstone of the Vosges, which is covered with thick forest. Lambach is the highest place in the vicinity, on Saueck it is 429 meters above sea level. The landscape around Lambach has been changing for a number of years due to increasing scrub and forest formation in the formerly open valleys.
history
It was not until 1577 that Lambach, Glasenberg was first mentioned as the location of a glass factory in 1750 . From 1790 to 1802 the localities belonged to the no longer existing canton of Lemberg, then from 1802 to 2015 to the canton of Rohrbach, which also no longer existed, and since then to the canton of Bitche.
During the Second World War , in which much of the historical building fabric was lost, the residents were evacuated to the Charente . Subsequently, the previously underdeveloped place with hardly developed traffic routes, along which the liquid manure flowed, has transformed into a sizable community with good infrastructure.
In the Lorraine regional language of the Bitscher Land, the Lambachers are called freschekep (frog heads ), which they wear with dignity.
