A torn tendon or a tendon is a tear or rupture ( rupture ) of a chord in a sudden overload of the tendon or jerky contraction of the associated muscle.
Most of the time, there is prior degenerative damage to the tendon.
The Achilles tendon tear is the most common tendon tear. Other common injuries are
- on the knee the quadriceps tendon rupture and the patellar tendon rupture
- Torn biceps tendon on upper arm and rotator cuff tear on shoulder .
Ruptures of the hamstring muscles can occur, especially in sport . Tendon ruptures of the triceps are rather rare.
