Manuela Zipse

Manuela Zipse (born Manuela Veith ; born May 11, 1974 in Mainz ) is a German long-distance runner who specializes in marathons .

Life

At the age of nine she already ran her first marathon at the Echternach Marathon in 3:35:54 h and then improved year after year.

The 1.73 m tall and 52 kg heavy athlete has been married to the long-distance runner Gerold Zipse (born January 16, 1963) since August 13, 1999, with whom she has two children. She started for the TV Bodenheim, the LG win, the ABC Ludwigshafen and the LG Breisgau. Now living in Heilbronn , she competes for TSG Heilbronn . She has already won three times in her new home at the Trollinger Marathon on the half marathon route , in 2004 with the course record of 1:17:08 h. After a baby break, she finished second in the Cologne Marathon in 2003and in 2004 sixth in the Hamburg Marathon. In 2005 she had a second child and put her competitive sport ambitions on hold.

Sporting successes

In 1986 she won her first marathon, the Hornisgrinde Marathon , in which a year later she set a course record of 2:56:59 h, which is still in place today. In 1989 she won the Bienwald Marathon in 2:50:38 h. In 1992 she became German marathon champion in 2:46:33 h. In 1994 she came third in the championship of the Frankfurt Marathon in 2:41:24 h (sixth place overall), and in 1995 she was fifth overall in the Hamburg Marathon in 2:39:25 h and second in the Frankfurt- Marathons in 2:38:03 h.

Two years later she came in fourth in Hamburg in 2:34:29 h, at the World Athletics Championships in Athens in 24th and in Frankfurt in fifth in 2:35:27 h. The following year she ran her personal record as second in the Hamburg Marathon with 2:30:58 h in her 37th start over the 42.195 km distance. At the European Athletics Championships in Budapest , she finished 25th.

In 1999 she was once again German runner-up, finishing second overall in the Hamburg Marathon. At the World Championships in Seville , she came in 22nd and together with Sonja Oberem and Claudia Dreher, she won bronze in the team classification. In 2000 she won the Hamburg Marathon in 2:31:37 hours, but missed the Olympic standard by a good one and a half minutes due to adverse wind conditions . In 2001 she was seventh overall in the Frankfurt Marathon and fourth at the German Championships. In 2007 she was eighth overall and seventh in the German championships in 2:52:58 h at the Gutenberg Marathon .
