Hornisgrinde marathon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hornisgrinde Marathon was a landscape marathon near Mount Hornisgrinde (1164 m) in the northern Black Forest . The marathon took place annually in July between 1973 and 2019. It was one of the oldest marathons in Germany.

The running route was a demanding, officially measured circuit in the forest area between Bühlertal , Forbach and the Hornisgrinde . The start and finish was Bühlertal-Hundseck on the Black Forest High Road (900 m above sea level ); the lowest point of the running route was reached after 25 km at the Schwarzenbachtalsperre reservoir (668 m above sea level). The run was almost exclusively on forest paths. A half marathon and a 10 km run were also part of the program.

The largest number of participants was reached in 1973 with 939 runners. Before the course of 1974 the route was measured and extended by 1.8 kilometers because the old route turned out to be too short. For the 13th year, 1984, the route was also officially measured so that results could be included in lists of the best.

The women's course record was set in 1987 by 13-year-old Manuela Veith (TV Bodenheim) with 2:56:59 hours. The men's course record is held by Rainer Müller (LTF Marpingen) with 2:34:11 hours, set in 2002.
