Paul Schmidt-Hellinger ( née Schmidt ; born August 17, 1985 in Dippoldiswalde ) is a German medic and long-distance runner .

Paul Schmidt-Hellinger started running at the beginning of the fifth grade, before swimming as a sport. Already at this point he ran the 1000 meters without special training in 3:48 minutes . This was followed, now starting for TSV Dresden, participation in the German Junior Championships 2003 and the European Cross Country Championships 2004 .

Other highlights in Paul Schmidt-Hellinger's career were participation in the 2006 European Cross Country Championships , the title of German amateur champion on the Olympic distance in the triathlon in 2007 and winning the 2007 German University Championships over 5000 meters in 14: 46.49 min . Then there was a change from rail to road running .

He completed his first marathon and won the 2009 Dresden Marathon in 02:32:45 h . At the German Championships in 2016 over 50 km in Berlin, he ran a new German record for this distance. The achieved time of 02:49:06 h was also the world's best for the year over this distance. For the remainder of the 2016 season, Paul Schmidt-Hellinger had to take a longer injury break.

Paul Schmidt-Hellinger is married and lives in Schildow , municipality of Mühlenbecker Land north of Berlin . Since successfully completing his medical studies in November 2010, he has been working as a doctor in sports medicine at the Charité in Berlin and is an association doctor for the senior national team of athletes.
