history

The place Schildow was first mentioned in the year 1375 in the land book of Charles IV . The place name describes the location of the village on a triangular (shield-shaped) parcel. Schildow is documented as one of the villages that was the first to grow poppy seeds and mustard in the Mark Brandenburg .

Schildow used to be part of the Kingdom of Prussia . There the place was from April 1, 1817 in Niederbarnimschen Kreis in the administrative district of Potsdam in the province of Brandenburg . After the end of the Second World War, Schildow was initially part of the Soviet zone of occupation and, from 1949, the GDR . During the district reform on July 25, 1952, Schildow was assigned to the Oranienburg district in the Potsdam district . After the reunification , the district of Oranienburg was renamed the district of Oranienburg and was finally dissolved. During the district reform on December 6, 1993, the community of Schildow became part of the newly founded district of Oberhavel . On October 26, 2003, Schildow merged with the municipalities of Mühlenbeck , Schönfließ and Zühlsdorf to form the new municipality of Mühlenbecker Land .

From the late 1940s onwards, a number of production companies had established themselves in the village, including VEB Gerdeen (cosmetics production), a veneer factory and a branch of the Zeuthen lighting company .

traffic

The closest railway station is the Mühlenbeck-Mönchmühle stop of the Berlin S-Bahn in the neighboring district of Mühlenbeck. The centrally located Schildow train station on the " Heidekrautbahn " has no regular passenger traffic. The Schildow-Mönchmühle stop on the Heidekrautbahn was at the level of the level crossing at Mühlenbecker Straße Schillerstraße . This has meanwhile been removed.
