Dresden marathon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dresden Marathon is a marathon that has been taking place on a Sunday in October since 1999 in the historic old town of Dresden . The event also includes a half marathon , a 10 km run and a tenth marathon over 4.2 km for all age groups. The participation record is around 8,700 runners in 2014.

The route starts on Ostra-Allee and leads in two laps on a flat circuit through the city center, the Neustadt and the Großer Garten. The second round of the marathon is only 65% identical to the first round. After a few hundred meters you pass the Zwinger and the Taschenbergpalais. The Theaterplatz with the Semperoper as well as the castle, cathedral and Georgentor follow on the first kilometer, before the Elbe is crossed on the Augustus Bridge. It continues through the Innere Neustadt and Äußere Neustadt to Stauffenbergallee. Through the Waldschlößchen tunnel and over the Waldschlößchenbrücke it goes to the districts of Johannstadt and Gruna. After a loop around and through the Great Garden , the route leads past the Transparent Automobile Manufactory to Comeniusplatz. After two long straights it goes on the Terrassenufer to the finish of the half marathon at the Maritim-Hotel or to the branch of the second half marathon round at the Italian village.
