Gerd Oswald

Gerd Oswald (born June 9, 1919 in Berlin , † May 22, 1989 in Los Angeles ) was a German -American film director , film producer , actor and screenwriter .

Life

The son of the film director Richard Oswald and the actress Käte Oswald was initially a child actor. In 1938 he emigrated to the USA (his father was considered Jewish due to his origins), where he initially worked as an assistant director in numerous feature films such as the anti-Nazi propaganda drama Hitler - Beast of Berlin (1939). Among other things, he worked on Rommel, the desert fox in 1951 , and was responsible for the parachute sequence in The Longest Day in 1962 as “2nd Unit Director” (head of the second directing staff) .

As early as 1955, Gerd Oswald worked as an independent director, among other things on television series such as Perry Mason , Bonanza , The Outer Limits , Raumschiff Enterprise and The Twilight Zone . Oswald made several international films, such as The Death Eye of Ceylon (1963) with Lex Barker in the leading role. In 1959, Oswald not only directed the German crime drama On the Day when the Rain came , but also wrote the script. He also held this double function in 1960 in Schachnovelle .

Gerd Oswald died of cancer in 1989 .
