The Outer Limits is an American science fiction - and mystery - television series . The series started in 1963 on the US broadcaster ABC with 32 episodes, the second season ended in 1964 after 17 episodes after the series was repeatedly placed in the program at unfavorable airtime.

From 1995 a new edition of The Outer Limits was produced in Canada , which got the title Outer Limits - The Unknown Dimension in German.

concept

Like the Twilight Zone , the series is an anthology of individual episodes. Each episode is therefore a self-contained story. However, The Outer Limits differs from Twilight Zone in that it has a greater proportion of science fiction elements.

Most of the episodes deal with a specific scientific concept, such as B. time travel , teleportation , wormholes or virtual reality , and deal with its effects on humanity.

An interesting concept of this series is that you rarely know how an episode will end in advance; sometimes the protagonist dies in the end, sometimes the rest of humanity - and sometimes the story ends happily.

actor

Since each episode tells a self-contained story, different actors appear in each episode. Over the entire duration of the series, this made up a considerable number of names, among which, for example, Robert Culp , Bruce Dern , James Doohan , Robert Duvall , Jill Haworth , Sally Kellerman , Arlene Martel , David McCallum , Leonard Nimoy , William Shatner , Martin Sheen , Adam West , Henry Silva and Grace Lee Whitney are located.
