David Keith McCallum, Jr. (born September 19, 1933 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish actor , musician and composer .

Life

McCallum, whose father David McCallum Sr. was first violinist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra , first studied music at the Royal Academy of Music in London, before he later studied acting at the Oxford Playhouse.

From the late 1950s he played minor roles in various British Rank Organization films such as Duel at the Wheel with Stanley Baker and Patrick McGoohan , The Cursed Farm and in 1958 in Roy Ward Baker's drama The Last Night of the Titanic .

At the beginning of the 1960s he also worked in American films , including in John Huston's drama about the psychoanalyst Freud , and also in the Herman Melville film adaptation of The Damned of the Seas by and with Peter Ustinov . In 1963 he was engaged for John Sturge's Hollywood production Broken Chains alongside an international star cast, as well as in George Stevens ' The Greatest Story of All Time .

Between 1964 and 1968 he played the Russian secret agent Illya Kuryakin in 105 episodes of the television series Solo for ONCEL , which is alluded to in the television series Navy CIS . The success of the series meant that some episodes were cut together and also released as feature films. From 1972 to 1974 McCallum had one of the leading roles in the British series Colditz . From the mid-1970s he moved into the field of view of the German-speaking audience again through leading roles in the television series The Invisible and in the ZDF Advent four-part adventure series The Adventures of David Balfour . Between 1979 and 1982 he had one of the title roles in the British television series Sapphire & Steel . In the 1980s and 1990s, McCallum was busy on British and American series. Since 2003 he has been one of the main characters in the series Navy CIS , in which he is the coroner Dr. Representing Donald "Ducky" Mallard. His contract was extended to the end of the 15th season in 2016. In the 16th and 17th seasons he was still part of the popular cast of the series. The German voice actor David McCallums has been Fred Maire since 2014 . Previously, this was Eberhard Prüter , who lent him his voice in Navy CIS until his death.

In the 1960s, David McCallum, who knows various instruments, recorded a number of successful jazz and funk albums for Capitol Records under the direction of David Axelrod , including 1966 Music ... A Part of Me , 1967 Music ... It's Happening Now ! and Music ... A Bit More of Me and the 1968 McCallum album .

As a renowned and successful theater actor, McCallum has appeared repeatedly on the New York and London stages over the decades.

In January 2016, McCallum published his first book, the detective novel Once a Crooked Man .

Private

McCallum was married to actress Jill Ireland († 1990) from 1957 to 1967 , with whom he has two biological sons (* 1958 and 1963) and a son who was adopted in 1963 († 1989). Ireland married Charles Bronson in the year of the divorce , McCallum remarried in the same year and with Katherine Carpenter they have two other children, a son and a daughter.
