Under water around the world is an American science fiction film by director Andrew Marton from 1966. It premiered in German cinemas on August 5, 1966.

action

After a series of seaquakes wreaked havoc around the world in the past, Dr. Doug Standish and his team of experts were commissioned by the US government to install an early warning system for seaquakes developed by Professor Hamaru. A special submarine, the Hydronaut , is available to them for this purpose. The crew is made up of marine researchers, seismologists and electronics engineers, the only woman on board is marine biologist Maggie Hanford.

After the first sensor was successfully anchored in the Puerto Rico Trench, the initial euphoria gave way to growing interpersonal tensions on board and the task of installing a total of 50 systems in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans was proving increasingly more difficult than expected.

Further problems arise when the submarine is attacked by a giant, moray-like deep-sea monster and an undersea volcanic eruption severely damages the submarine. However, the crew manages to free themselves from all dangerous situations and finally to successfully complete the mission.

Reviews

"Seaman's yarn, spun not very excitingly"

"Technically ingenious, sophisticated utopian film, which, however, impairs itself in its effect because it cannot make a clear decision between future and adventure history."

“A handcrafted, interestingly instructive, semi-utopian American adventure film [...]. Easy to see. "
