Francis Xavier Aloysius James Jeremiah Keenan Wynn (born July 27, 1916 in New York - † October 14, 1986 in Brentwood , California ) was an American actor in theater, film and television.

Life

Wynn was born into a show business family. His father, comedian and clown Ed Wynn , was also a well-known actor in television and cinema (including Uncle Albert in Mary Poppins ). Keenan Wynn began his career in the theater in the 1930s, and between 1935 and 1943 he played in various Broadway performances . He got his first roles in films in the early 1940s and was a busy actor until his death. Wynn also had notable appearances in film musicals, including Annie Get Your Gun and Kiss me, Katchen! or in The Golden Rainbow next to Fred Astaire . Wynn also frequently played supporting roles in westerns , such as sheriff in Play Me a Song of Death alongside Henry Fonda and Claudia Cardinale and in The Powerful alongside John Wayne and Kirk Douglas .

A cult role was that of the villainous financial tycoon and investor Alonzo P. Hawk, whom Keenan Wynn played in three Disney films in the 1960s and 1970s , all directed by Robert Stevenson . His father Ed Wynn also starred in the first two of these films, The Flying Timpani and its sequel The Timpanist Can't Quit it . In the third film, Herbie , Wynn plays the role of Hawk and is the opponent of the eponymous VW Beetle. In addition, Wynn was seen in countless television films and series in the course of his career, including the early 1980s in the soap opera Dallas as Willard "Digger" Barnes, the opponent of John Ross sr. "Jock" Ewing ( Jim Davis ).

As early as 1959 he and James Brough had submitted his autobiography with the significant title Ed Wynn's Son . The actor was married three times, most recently to Sharley Hudson from 1954 until his death, and had five children. Keenan Wynn died at 70 years in California's Brentwood to cancer . His son Tracy Keenan Wynn is a screenwriter and his granddaughter Jessica Keenan Wynn is an actress.
