In 1869 Tsar Alexander II revoked the town charter, as did a number of other cities under the rule of Russia.
After the end of the First World War Brok was granted city rights again in 1922. On September 8 and 9, 1939, fighting took place in the vicinity of the city. The occupation by the Wehrmacht lasted until the invasion of the Red Army on August 27, 1944.
