action

The unemployed student Michael Fox is unsuccessful in looking for a job, his dream is to become a pilot. At the same time, the attractive and self-confident computer specialist Julie Collins was rejected in an interview at a bank, despite the best qualifications.

Michael and Julie meet at a party, and he drives her home. While driving, Julie notices interference in the car radio. When Michael stops, she discovers that the radio interference originated in the vicinity of an ATM and that all secret numbers and account-specific information can be received with a special recorder . Together they make the decision to withdraw $ 200 from unsuspecting customers using the intercepted data with forged account cards. The plan works.

In the meantime, a terrorist organization is depositing transmitters across the board in order to use special frequencies to disrupt the central bank's central computer. This is to cause a collapse of the banks and the entire US monetary system. By chance, Julie discovers a transmitter and secret central bank records in a van in a car repair shop. After both investigating the workshop in question, which is the underground terrorist headquarters, Julie notices unusually strong frequency interference. Their car is shot at and from then on Michael and Julie are on the run.

After a night of love together, Michael is kidnapped. But Julie can free him at an airfield so that they can escape with a small plane. Due to a lack of fuel, they have to land again soon and go to the FBI headquarters. There, however, Michael and Julie are arrested for their fraud, and no one wants to believe their statements about a terrorist attack on the financial world. But when the collapse of the central bank's central computer became public and the entire economic system was on the verge of collapse, they were taken seriously. While searching for the terrorists' hidden transmitters, they find the main device in a van. If an incorrect frequency is set, the car equipped with explosives will explode. But Julie and Michael manage to use their expertise to save the US economy shortly before its decline.

criticism

"At first a very sedate, then increasingly lively, passable entertainment film that at times creates solid tension with borrowings from Alfred Hitchcock , but in its criticism of a state that has lost track of its own computer systems, but seems rather aimless."

Alert level 1 was created in 1984 and deals with a hot topic for the time: computer espionage . However, this film has so far remained the first and only by screenwriter and director Michael Farkas. Toni Hudson and Lee Montgomery can be seen in the leading roles. "
