Damares (born January 30, 1980 in Umuarama , Paraná ; actually Damares Alves Bezerra de Oliveira ) is a Brazilian gospel singer .

Life

Damares, daughter of Pastor Antonio Bezerra and Rosa Maria Alvez Bezerra, attended the Augusto Angels municipal school . At the age of 16 she married Pastor Aldori de Oliveira.

She became known in the gospel scene in 2008 with her album " Revelation" , of which over 600,000 copies were sold in a short time. With the included song Sabor de Mel (Taste of Honey), she won several talent competitions in 2009. In 2010 she signed a contract with Sony Music and released the album "Diamante", which sold 130,000 copies in one month. There are now more than twice as many (2012). Damares received the title of Ambassador for Peace from the UN .
