Military - death rays from space (Original title: Laser Blast ) is an American low-budget - science fiction film by director Michael Rae from 1978. Listed is the film in the US came in Germany on 1 March 1978. the film did not hit theaters and was marketed on VHS in 1982 .

action

A humanoid figure is dragging its way through the desert, a gun-like weapon in hand. A UFO lands nearby, from which two reptile-like aliens rise. A short firefight ensues, in which the reptiles prevail and disintegrate the fugitive. When they fly away again, the weapon remains in the desert. Maverick Billy Duncan has previously been harassed by other teenagers and the police and drives to the nearby desert to distract himself. While resting, he notices a strange object that turns out to be a laser cannon . He now uses this to take revenge on his enemies; but the more he uses the laser weapon, he turns more and more into a psychotic mutant . His friend Kathy Farley tries to dissuade him and stands by him because of his physical changes.

Billy is finally enraged and kills indiscriminately. Kathy tries one more time to influence Billy, but before that he is killed by the reptiles. While Billy's friend Kathy mourns his body, the aliens leave; leave the weapon behind again.

Graeme Clark criticized the two-dimensionality of the characters and said the film would be derided as one of the worst science fiction films ever.

  • In an early promotional article, the title Laserblast was mistakenly spelled Laser Blast, but it is spelled together as one word.
  • The alien design was created by Dave Allen, who based it on prehistoric turtles he saw as a child at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago .
  • The language of the aliens consists of a presidential address that was played backwards and at double speed.
  • On October 4, 2019, the film was shown as part of the Tele-5 series The Worst Films of All Time (SchleFaZ).
