David Allen (special effects artist, 1944)

David William Allen (born October 22, 1944 in Los Angeles , California - † August 16, 1999 in Burbank , Los Angeles County , California) was an American special effects artist .

Life

David Allan had been working in the field of special effects for film and television since the late 1960s, initially also as an assistant to Jim Danforth . From the 1970s he worked for the producer and director Charles Band and was involved in dozens of low-budget films and B-movies . In the 1980s, Allen also worked for Industrial Light & Magic . He also ran his own company with David Allen Productions. One focus of my work was stop-motion .

As a director, Allen was involved in an episode of the film Rulers of Hell . In 1990, Puppet Master II, his first and only feature film, followed.

For his work on The Secret of the Hidden Temple , Allen and several colleagues were nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects in 1986. For his animation at Laserkill - Death Rays from Space , he received the Silver Asteroid at the Festival internazionale del film di fantascienza di Trieste .

Allen died from cancer.
