Bride of Re-Animator is a 1989 in the United States produced horror -Komödie on a story by HP Lovecraft . It is considered one of the bloodiest films of its genre, but also a weak parody of Frankenstein's bride . This is the sequel to the 1985 film Re-Animator , directed by Stuart Gordon . In 2003, Brian Yuzna again directed the third part, which was released under the title Beyond Re-Animator .

action

Dr. Herbert West and Dr. Dan Cain have developed a serum with which you can not only revive the dead. It enables them to create new, bizarre forms of life from all possible and impossible parts of the body (such as an eyeball with three human fingers as legs). Since they regularly steal body parts from the observation room of the hospital in order to be able to assemble their "dream woman", a police officer comes on their trail, but this is still their smallest problem, because the severed, reanimated head of Dr. Carl Hill wants to get revenge for what the two scientists once did to him and get them back with the help of a zombie army.

information

In 1990 the German premiere of the film was shown in the original version at the Weekend of Fear Film Festival in Nuremberg. Then an abridged rental VHS with a length of about 92 minutes was released. The uncut unrated version is about 97 minutes. The R-rated version has the same running time as the unrated version, but alternative scenes were used for this version in some places. In addition, the film was indexed until November 2013. In a new FSK exam in the same month, the film was then approved with "no youth approval". This applies to both the R-rated and the unrated version.

criticism

“It was certainly not easy to plan a sequel to what was probably the most groundbreaking genre film of the 80s and, above all, to realize it. It must be said, however, that this task was solved well by everyone involved. […] Similar to the original, the plot is heading for a bloody and detailed finale, but this time the very crude ideas are missing. Rather, the ending is based on the 35s universal classic 'Frankenstein's Bride' by James Whale, because here, too, the creation of a female creature leads to catastrophe. Although 'Bride of Re-Animator' leaves the door open for another sequel to HPLovecraft's character Herbert West at the very end, it is recommended to forego it here, because another stroke of luck like this second part is probably not repeatable. A red card should be given to the German video provider who is rolling out 'Bride of Re-Animator' under a 'Splatter Edition' - but shortened by six minutes! "
