Arthur Weiss (born June 13, 1912 in New York City , New York , † August 26, 1980 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American screenwriter and television producer . He was best known for his work for film productions in the adventure and family film genre such as Flipper , Safari to Hell , Under Water Around the World and Namu, the predatory whale .

life and career

Arthur Weiss was born in New York City in 1912. Weiss wrote screenplays for US television and cinema since the early 1950s. Weiss worked several times with the director and producer Ivan Tors , including on his adventure film productions in the 1960s, which focused on marine mammals such as dolphins and killer whales as protagonists , as in Flipper 1963 and Namu, the predatory whale in 1966. He also wrote for the Film and television producer Irwin Allen wrote numerous scripts for his series and television films.

In around 25 years he wrote numerous scripts for episodes of well-known television series such as Chevron Theater (1952), Science Fiction Theater (1955–1956), West of Santa Fé (1958), Adventure Under Water (1958–1961), Leap Out of the Clouds ( 1961–1962), On the Flight (1963–1965), the television series Flipper (1965–1966), Daktari (1966), The Seaview - On a Secret Mission (1967–1968), Mannix (1968–1974), Kobra You (1970–1972) or Emergency Call California (1973–1974).

In addition to his work as a screenwriter for television and cinema, he also produced various episodes for the TV series Auf der Flucht and two television films in the 1970s on his own responsibility. In 1969 he wrote the novel O'Kelly's Eclipse , which was published by Cassell in London.

Arthur Weiss was married to actress Fay Baker from 1940 to 1965. He later married Patricia Jones. Weiss died on August 26, 1980 at the age of 68 in Los Angeles, California.
