Robert Martin Culp (born August 16, 1930 in Oakland , California , † March 24, 2010 in Los Angeles ) was an American actor who appeared in various television series such as Adventures in the Wild West , A Thousand Miles of Dust , None from the mid-1950s Case occurred for FBI , Columbo or Bonanza .

Life

Culp was born the only child of Crozier Cordell Culp, a lawyer, and his wife, Bethel Martin Culp (née Collins). He graduated from Berkeley High School . At his school he was a successful pole vaulter and took second place in this sport at the California State Championships in 1947.

Culp attended the University of the Pacific at Stockton , but never graduated. He also studied at the universities of Washington University in St. Louis , San Francisco State and the University of Washington School of Drama without obtaining a degree.

Culp became known in Germany for his role as Kelly Robinson in the crime series Tennis Rackets and Cannons (original title: I Spy ), in which he appeared from 1965 to 1968. As Robinson he was one of two US spies alongside Bill Cosby who had exciting adventures in a humorous way.

He was seen three times as a murderer in the crime series Columbo , in Murder with the Left Hand (1971), When the Ice Man Comes (1972) and A Thoroughly Motivated Death (1973). In the episode Lucifer's pupil (1990) he played the father of one of the two murderers.

From 1996 to 2004 he made guest appearances as Warren on the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond . In the English language version of the 2004 computer game Half-Life 2 , he played the role of the villain Dr. Breen. He had his last film role in the drama The Assignment (2010), which he was able to finish before he died of a heart attack .
