Grace Lee Whitney
Grace Lee Whitney (* 1. April 1930 in Ann Arbor , Michigan as Mary Ann Chase ; † 1. May 2015 in Coarsegold , Madera County , California ) was an American actress . She was also known by the names Grace Whitney , Grace Elaine Whitney , Lee Whitney and Ruth Whitney .
Life
Whitney had her first film role in 1947 in the B-Western Mystery Range . However, she initially played mainly smaller roles, for example as a member of the ladies' band in Some Like It Hot and as a prostitute in The Girl Irma la Douce , directed by Billy Wilder . She became known to a wide audience as " Janice Rand " in the first season of Starship Enterprise and in four other Star Trek movies; in this role she played the assistant of " Captain Kirk " ( William Shatner ). Whitney also had guest appearances on series such as The Smoking Colts and Batman . At the theater she played the role of "Lucy Brown" in The Threepenny Opera . In total she appeared in over 20 films and around 80 television episodes by 2011.
Grace Lee Whitney was at times addicted to alcohol but later overcame her addiction. She also wrote about this in her 1998 autobiography The Longest Trek: My Tour of the Galaxy . The actress was married to Jack Dale. Her son Scott starred in an episode of the television series Starship Enterprise .
