Dominic Frontiere

Dominic Frontiere (born June 17, 1931 in New Haven , Connecticut , † December 21, 2017 in Tesuque , New Mexico , USA ) was an American composer .

biography

Dominic Carmen Frontiere came from a musical family. At the age of seven he played several instruments before he concentrated more on the accordion. He first played at Carnegie Hall at the age of 12 . He played in several bands in the 1940s and early 1950s before moving to Los Angeles to study at UCLA .

In the mid-1950s, Frontiere recorded with a sexette line-up under his own name for Liberty Records ; Abe Most (clarinet), Bill Ulyate (bass clarinet), Jack Marshall (guitar), Mike Rubin (bass) and Nick Fatool (drums) played in his band . The album Fabulous !! on which he played jazz standards like " Blue Room ", " Ol 'Man River " and " Pennies from Heaven ". In 1957 he recorded with Harry James and His Orchestra.

At 20th Century Fox he got a job as musical director and recorded several film scores under composers such as Lionel and Alfred Newman . It was then producers like Leslie Stevens and Quinn Martin who hired him to write the music for films like Inkubo and Hangs him higher, as well as television series like The Outer Limits , Outlaw and Invasion of Vega . From the early 1970s he worked for Paramount Pictures and composed the music for films such as Brannigan - A Man of Steel , Cleopatra Jones versus the Dragon Lady and The Craziest Rally in the World . For his music for the action comedy The Long Death of Stuntman Cameron , he was awarded for Best Score at the 1981 Golden Globe Awards .

In 1986 Frontiere spent nine months in custody in a state prison. He was charged with illegally selling tickets to the 1980 Super Bowl that he received from his wife and owner of the Los Angeles Rams , Georgia Frontiere . He is said to have sold 16 tickets and made a million dollars in the process. Frontiere pleaded guilty, spent 1 year and one day in jail, received three years probation, and fined $ 15,000 for failing to report the additional income to tax. His wife divorced shortly after Frontiere was released from prison.
