Leopold Wally

Leopold Wally (born March 24, 1918 in Vienna ; † January 11, 1978 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and principal school director of the day care center in Salzburg. From 1966 to 1969 he was a member of the Salzburg state parliament and from 1969 to 1978 a member of the Federal Council .

education and profession

Leopold Wally attended elementary school in the Flachgau community of Seekirchen am Wallersee between 1924 and 1928 and then moved to a secondary school in Salzburg from 1928 to 1932. Between 1932 and 1937 he graduated from the Federal Teachers Training Institute (nowadays the University of Education ) in Salzburg. After doing his military service as a one-year volunteer with the Austrian Armed Forces between 1938 and 1939 , he was drafted into military service in 1939 and then served in World War II until 1945 .

After his return from the war in 1945, Wally passed the teaching qualification exams for elementary, secondary and special schools as well as physical education and then worked as a teacher at various elementary and secondary schools in the city of Salzburg until 1958. In 1958 he took over the post of principal of the day care center in Salzburg, which he held until 1978.

Politics and functions

Wally got involved with the Austrian Children's Friends and worked in their Salzburg regional group from 1953 to 1972 as state secretary. From 1972 to 1978 he was regional chairman of the Salzburg Children's Friends. As a teacher and main school director, he was also active as chairman of the socialist teachers 'association in Salzburg-Stadt and deputy regional chairman of the socialist teachers' association until 1972; within the party, he was a member of the regional executive committee of the Salzburg Social Democratic Party from 1972 to 1978. Wally represented the Social Democratic Party from November 3, 1966 to May 13, 1969 in the Salzburg state parliament and was then a member of the Austrian Federal Council from May 14, 1969 to January 11, 1978.

Private

Leopold Wally was the father of the Austrian art historian and cultural mediator Barbara Wally (* 1947).
