Abe Most
Abraham Elijah "Abe" Most (* 27. February 1920 in New York City ; † 10. October 2002 in Los Angeles ) was an American clarinetist and alto saxophonist of the swing jazz .
Abe Most is the older brother of the flautist Sam Most . After private instrumental training, he began his musical career in 1939 as a saxophonist in the Big Band of Les Brown , where he worked for two years; then he did his military service from 1942 to 1945. In 1946 he was briefly with Tommy Dorsey , led his own quartet and moved to Los Angeles in the late 1940s to work as a studio musician. a. with Pete Rugolo (1952), Lyle Murphy (1955) or Billy Bean (1958). In addition, Most often played in local clubs (occasionally with his brother) and jazz festivals. Recordings under his own name were rarely made; he led sessions for the small labels Superior (1946), Trend (1954), Annunciata (1978) and Camard (1984). In his recordings, he revived the music of Artie Shaw and Benny Goodman . In 1985, he took with The World's Greatest Jazz Band to Yank Lawson on. Most recently his album I Love You Much too Much , u. a. with Jake Hanna . In the mid-1990s he was part of the A Tribute to Artie Shaw tour.
In 1986 he received the Emeritus Award from NARAS.
