content
Officer Jason McCord (Chuck Connors) is the sole survivor of the Battle of Bitter Creek. He is then suspected of having deserted out of cowardice before the battle . McCord is demoted : he loses his military rank, the epaulettes and buttons are torn from his uniform, his saber is broken. Then he is chased out of the fort. (This ostracism is shown as the intro of every episode.) He gets a job as a surveyor for the railroad and travels across the country to find evidence of his innocence. He forged a long knife from the pieces of saber, which is helpful to him in individual episodes.
