Chuck Connors (actually Kevin Joseph Aloysius Connors ; born April 10, 1921 in Brooklyn , New York , † November 10, 1992 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor , baseball and basketball player.

biography

Connors was the son of Irish-American parents. He finished his studies at Seton Hall College to join the US Army . After the end of World War II , Connors began a basketball career with the Boston Celtics , then switched to baseball.

Because he had a large family to support with his four children, he hired himself in a sub-division in Los Angeles in the late 1940s, after guest appearances with the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs had remained short-term interludes. During this time he was discovered by talent scouts, whereupon he got his first small supporting role in Pat and Mike (1952) as sheriff.

Connors developed a talent for acting and was mostly used in westerns and crime films due to his size and stature . He became famous for his leading role in West of Santa Fé (Original: The Rifleman , 1958-1963), one of the most famous western series on television.

After his first marriage failed, he married fellow actor Kamala Devi in 1963. The couple appeared together in two relatively short-lived series. In 1972 the marriage was divorced. Connor's third and final marriage was only one year in 1977.

Until his retirement from the film business because of his lung cancer, Connors appeared regularly in films and TV guest roles.
