Viva Pancho Villa (original title: El desafío de Pancho Villa ) is a Spanish-British western production from 1971. It depicts very free experiences of the Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa , who is portrayed by Telly Savalas . The German-language premiere of the film was on October 13, 1972.

action

Mexico, 1916. Pancho Villa and McDermott did business with each other through dubious arms deals; Villas archenemy, General Goyo, attacks him with armed force and insidious cunning. He tricked him when a deal planned by Villas gringo friend Scotty failed to materialize. Together, Villa and Scotty devise a plan to take control of the Army Fort Columbus in return. And then they do it; the traitorous McDermott is killed. After his people overran it, they captured a train, rammed it into an American troop transport and finally took action against General Pershing.

criticism

The Lexicon of International Films wrote sarcastically: “Filmed in the style of a spaghetti western; the political motives remain in the background so as not to burden the mass shootings. "Joe Hembus in the Western Lexicon:" A film that tries hard to be funny. (…) Another high point of the comedy is Pancho's disappointment that he cannot personally kill his old enemy General Goyo. "

Remarks

The film song “We All End Up the Same” is performed by the lead actor Savalas. The Super8 version of the film was titled Three Hallelujahs on Four Hot Colts , which is occasionally listed as a German cinema title (also as 3 Hallelujah for 4 hot Colts ).
