Antón García Abril
Antón García Abril (born May 19, 1933 in Teruel ) is a Spanish composer and music teacher .
life and work
García Abril, born in Teruel in 1933, studied from 1952 to 1955 at the Conservatory of Madrid with Julio Gomez and Francisco Cales and then at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena with Vito Frazzi composition, with Paul van Kempen orchestral conducting and with Angelo Francesco Lavagnino film music. From 1964 he continued his education at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Goffredo Petrassi .
With Luis de Pablo and Cristóbal Halffter he presented Spain at the 39th international festival of the International Society for Contemporary Music . From 1974 to 2003 he held a chair for composition at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid . In 1982 he became a member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando de Madrid , and in 1995 he became a corresponding member of the Academia de Nobles y Bellas Artes de San Luis de Zaragoza .
In addition to an opera, several ballets, orchestral works, choral and chamber music, García Abril composed numerous film scores, especially for films by Mario Camus and Pilar Miro . He has received many awards for his work, including a. with the Premio Nacional de Música (1993), several prizes from the Sociedad General de Autores y Editores y la Asociación de Intérpretes y Ejecutantes and the Culture Prize of the City of Madrid (2007).
