Arlene Martel (born April 14, 1936 in New York City , New York - † August 12, 2014 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress . Before 1964 she used the stage names Tasha Martel , Arlene Sax and Arline Sax .

Life

Martel grew up in a simple family in the Bronx , New York , before her mother's employer sent her to boarding school in Connecticut at his expense . She later attended the prestigious High School of the Performing Arts in her hometown, from which she graduated with honors. She then appeared on Broadway in New York and began making regular television appearances in the late 1950s. Martel made her big screen debut in 1964 with Antonio Santean's mystery film The Glass Cage , before reaching a broad US audience through her role as T'Pring in the Star Trek episode Amok Time and The Outer Limits episode Demon with a Glass Hand .

The 1.68 m tall actress was married to American colleague Jerry Douglas, who was four years her junior. The divorced marriage had two children.

Martel died of a heart attack in August 2014 at the age of 78.
