Carlo, the son of the housekeeper Theresa, has a unique singing voice, but has to follow the wishes of the squire Rossani and work as a gardener. Carlo only dreams of one day making it big as a singer. Carlo is secretly in love with Lisetta, the pretty blond daughter of the landlord. He spent his youth with her and the organist's son Roberto. Many years have passed without anything developing between Carlo and Lisetta. The young woman has long since fallen in love with Carlos's friend Roberto without Carlo knowing about it. On the occasion of Lisetta's 21st birthday, Carlo sees his last chance to conquer her heart with a smashed aria. But landowner Rossani rejects this request. Disappointed, Carlo complains to his friend and protector Beppo, a coachman, of his suffering. He advises him to go away, to train his voice to perfection with a professional and then to return to try his luck with Lisetta again.
Carlo moves to town with Beppo. By chance he can show his talent when he stands in for an unusual singer. Suddenly Carlo is celebrated as a great discovery and a world career seems to be open to him. But Carlo doesn't care about his career, the only thing that drives him is his love for Lisetta. But she has long since decided in favor of Roberto. But since Carlo cannot see into her heart, he throws himself into the act when he hears about Rossani's high debt. For Lisetta's sake, he lets Beppo buy up all the bills so as not to let Lisetta's father's estate go bankrupt. After a successful American tour, Carlo wants to confess his love to Lisetta at a party in his honor, but Rossani gets ahead of him and announces his daughter's engagement to Roberto at the party. Carlo ripped Rossani's bill of exchange and withdrew into the world of music.

When you are young, the world is yours was made in November / December 1933 in Vienna (studio recordings) and on the Riviera (exterior recordings) and was premiered on January 31, 1934 in Austria. There was no German premiere due to the strong Jewish participation in this film.
A certain Henry Oebels-Oebström is officially named as the director of the film, but it is now undisputed that Oswald directed this film largely himself.
Alfred Norkus and JW Beyer provided the sound; screenwriter Ernst Neubach also wrote the lyrics.
