Diary of a Lost (alternative title: The Diary of a Dead and A Berlin Zeitbild from 1914 ) is a German film drama by Richard Oswald from 1918. The screenplay of this silent film is based on the novel of the same name by Margarete Böhme from 1905.
action
The pharmacist's daughter Thymian Gotteball is seduced and impregnated by provisional Meinert, one of her father's employees. After the birth of her child, she is cast out by her own family and admitted to an educational institution. As a result, she gets more and more into social isolation. Only when an old count takes care of her and marries her does she gain access to both aristocratic and middle-class circles.
background
The production company was Richard Oswald-Film GmbH Berlin (No. 121). The buildings were created by August Rinaldi .
The film was presented to the Berlin police in July 1918 in a version of six files at 2,201 meters. Despite considerable cuts to 1,934 meters, approx. 94 minutes, (and still six acts), the film was not only banned from young people, it was also banned for the duration of the war (No. 41795). The Munich police also issued a youth ban (No. 29883, 29884, 29885, 29886, 29887, 29888). The Berlin Reich Film Censorship renewed the youth ban (No. 2766) on July 5, 1922.
The premiere therefore took place on October 28 or 29, 1918 both at UT Kurfürstendamm and at UT Nollendorfplatz , but before the armistice on November 11, 1918 .
In the same year Oswald made the film Dida Ibsen's story - a finale to Margarete Böhme's “Diary of a Lost One” , which is a continuation of the subject.
Availability
The film seems to have been preserved.
