action

Susanne Lamond, who earns her living as a simple cigarette seller in a cabaret in Paris, does not know that she is actually a Hawaiian princess by the name of Laya. The Attaché Stone from the United States falls in love with her and follows her as an agent of the liberation movement, luring her to Hawaii with an alleged offer to perform as an artist. Here, the Hawaiian nationalists are planning, she is to be married to a prince, Lilo Taro, who pretends to be the throne.

The American governor Harrison, however, has other political plans in mind and plans to marry the prince to his niece Bessy in order to continue to support the USA's claim to the Pacific Islands. Bessy, however, loves Harrison's secretary Buffy. When the conspirators kidnap Susanne into the old royal palace, where a large wedding ceremony is to take place, Susanne takes a stand. She fell in love with the smart American long ago and they both want to get married. She renounces all claims to the throne and titles and follows him. Eventually, Bessy and Buffy also become a couple.

Reviews

Paimann's film lists summed up: “Naively constructed and unrealistic operetta events in a fleeting and seamless staging, which makes its episodic, undramatic character stand out even more. Even Abraham's lively, effective music does not come into its own. The Eggerth and Fidesser demonstrate their vocal skills, but can just as little assert themselves as the rest of the ensemble. As always, Verebes has his laughs. "

“Oswald's films are basically films about roles. THE FLOWER OF HAWAI is particularly varied; Susanne, played by Martha Eggerth, is constantly going through new situations, which require new behavior, in a wonderful career. She sells cigarettes in a Parisian vaudeville, she shows herself as a mistress at the side of an American diplomat, she taps with professional swing to jazz music, she walks urbaneously on promenade decks, she enjoys the flair of a swarmed beauty, and she turns out to be a princess from Hawaii. The only thing that is certain for Susanne is that Hawaii is the goal of her dreams, but the existence as a princess of an island is not the meaning of her life. "
