Eugen Rex (born July 8, 1884 in Berlin ; † February 21, 1943 there ) was a German actor .

Life

The trained architectural draftsman took acting lessons from Max Adriano and made his debut in 1905 at the summer theater in Schlangenbad - Soden . In 1905/06 he played at the Apollo Theater in Nuremberg and at the Stadttheater St. Gallen .

From 1907 to 1911 he was part of the ensemble of the Mainz City Theater , and from 1911 to 1914 he was engaged at the Karlsruhe Court Theater . From autumn 1914 he worked in Berlin at the theater on Königgrätzer Strasse and from 1915 also served as an officer in the training service.

In 1916 he moved to the Deutsches Theater , in 1918 to the Metropoltheater and in 1919 to the Theater am Nollendorfplatz . Since 1920 he has appeared as a freelance actor on various Berlin stages, sometimes with his own plays and skits.

From then on, the work for the film at Eugen Rex was of great importance. As early as 1919 he was also directing, but afterwards he was almost entirely limited to acting as an actor. Rex mainly embodied quirky petty bourgeoisie, pedantic officials and civil servants of all kinds.

In 1933 he joined the NSDAP . In 1933 he became a councilor for the Reichsfachschaft film and in 1934 a supervisory board member of the pension institutions of the German Theater Association. In 1935 he took over the management of the Heidelberg Reich Festival .

At the end of the thirties, Rex was again increasingly seen at Berlin theaters, for example in 1938/39 at the Lessing Theater in Krach around Jolanthe . His own plays and the two operettas Stern by Araschi and Güldüna were also performed. From 1940 to 1943 he worked at the Theater am Schiffbauerdamm . One of his last film roles was in the crime film Suspected Ursula the court auditor Planelglas, who is constantly distracted by his dog.

Eugen Rex is buried in the In den Kisseln cemetery in Berlin's Spandau district.
