The ship without a harbor is a German adventure and crime film by and with Harry Piel from 1932.
action
Klaus Hansen is a member of the maritime police that do their duty on the German North Sea coast. After he has just married the singer Kitty Korff, the couple go on their honeymoon. When he learns from the newspaper that a colleague who was also the best man was killed in pursuit of an unknown ship, Hansen decides to return home. This ominous ship, which is now only referred to as a "ghost ship" because it is not registered in any port, is preparing the police as well as the fishermen who have been rammed by it one or the other time without regard to losses, more and more Problems.
A cigarette case that Hansen gives his colleague Martin as a present on his return will soon play some role in the resolution of this curious case. A few days later, Hansen saw the same case with a former friend, Lilly Steffens. Obviously this lady is involved in the machinations of the crew of the ghost ship, since Martin was stolen this case by members of the ship's crew during a robbery. Since then, Martin has disappeared. Lilly's current lover, Jochen Hübner, has obviously given the case to his flame. This Huebner is a dubious figure: He was the only one who survived the sinking of a ship that was loaded with gold. His rescue was never made public, now he and his gang want to rescue the foreign treasure and take possession of it.
Due to Hübner's lack of caution when giving away the case, Hansen now knows that something cannot be right with this Hübner. By means of a telephone call that Klaus Hansen makes with Martin, who is in the hands of the ship's gang, Klaus is supposed to be lured into a trap from which he can no longer get out. But Martin gives him a hidden warning during the phone call, from which Hansen can draw important conclusions. He now turns the tables and now sets a trap for Huebner: He wants Huebner to bring him to his gang on the eerie ship without a harbor. Hübner is then officially arrested, but, as Hansen planned, he escapes with the help of a "bribed" police officer while driving to the remand prison. Now Hansen is in a wild chase on Hübner's heels until he arrives at the ship of the modern pirates. Hansen frees Martin, but the gangsters refuse to let either go. When the colleagues approach the ship with their police boats, there is a violent shooting. Eventually the gang can be arrested.

criticism
The Österreichische Film-Zeitung wrote: "With the film“ The Ship Without a Harbor ”Harry Piel has again produced an extraordinarily exciting adventure film. It gets its mood from the lively, powerful atmosphere of the sea, from ships, masts, harbor, dangers and strange experiences . (...) This time too, Harry Piel is, as always, his own director, as an actor he is as simple as possible and avoids all excesses.
