The silent witness is a German detective and adventure silent film by Harry Piel from 1917.

action

The banker pool was found murdered. Mrs. Masten, Pool's alleged housekeeper, and Erwin, a relative of the dead man, direct suspicion to the niece of the murdered banker, Jenny Pool. You want to get the inheritance of the deceased in this way. Detective Kelly Brown takes on the case and finds a "silent" witness to the murder. The convicted woman Masten kills herself with poison.

Production notes

The silent witness was premiered in December 1917 in the Tauentzienpalast . The film had five acts and was almost 1,700 meters long. In Austria, on April 12, 1918, a shortened version with a running time of around 1500 meters (= around 73 minutes playing time) was released in cinemas.
