Production notes
Black Blood was Harry Piel's first film and was made, probably in February and / or March 1912, in the Vitascope studio at Grosse Frankfurter Strasse 105 in Berlin .
The originally three-act film was banned from children and young people at the examination in March 1912 and premiered as a two-act film on May 18, 1912 after several cuts and reworking. Because of the great success of Schwarzes Blut , Piel shot a sequel with Demons of the Deep (also: Schwarzes Blut, Part 2 ) afterwards.
The screenplay was written by Piel, who had made his first film contacts in Paris, on the return trip from France to Germany. Even with this first film, Piel showed that sensational films should become his very own genre.
Julius Kaftanski took over the production management. The future comedy writer Curt Goetz probably made his film debut here. He was seen "in the lead role of a bustling murderer". For Eva Speyer , too, this might have been her first or one of her first films.
