The American Duel is a German detective and adventure silent film directed by Harry Piel from 1918.

action

Luzie, the daughter of the industrialist van der Zypen, turns to the detective Kelly Brown in her need. Her fiancé, the gentleman rider Randolf Moor, has been behaving so strangely lately and is subject to strong moods. Brown is supposed to find out why Randolf is so depressed. Brown finds out that Randolf has engaged in a so-called " American duel " with Jockey Weller . Kelly also discovers that Weller is the accomplice of an impostor, the alleged Countess Morris.

Production notes

The American duel , advertised as a sensational detective drama , originated in the winter of 1917/18, passed censorship in February 1918 and was premiered in the Tauentzienpalast the following month . Depending on the censorship version, the film had four or five acts and was 1570 or 1599 meters long. In Austria, a significantly shortened version with a running time of around 1500 meters (= around 73 minutes playing time) was released in cinemas.
