action

Count Horward and his sister Alice took over the reign of a principality after the death of their old father. While Horward finds his personal happiness in Princess Eleonore, Alice has fallen in love with Count Wornozew, a childhood friend of her brother. Since the small hereditary monarchy is totally over-indebted, Horward has to renounce his great love for reasons of state and seek marriage to the American millionaire daughter Miss Shaw. He sent Wornozew as his suitor. He sets off for the United States on a passenger steamer and meets a young lady on board. They both fall head over heels in love. When he learns that it is Miss Shaw, he pushes his feelings aside with a heavy heart and carries out his assignment to ask for the hand of the daughter from Miss Shaw's father on behalf of Count Horward, the new prince. Soon one travels back to the principality, where a big reception is being prepared for the financial saviors of the bankrupt state.

Princess Eleonore bowed to the pressure without complaint and, deprived of her love, withdrew to a monastery. Meanwhile, Alice, who still has deep feelings for Wornozew, must see how difficult it is for Wornozew to part with the future princess, Miss Shaw. Her love for one another seems as deep as it is sincere. Alice finds that this arranged marriage will only stumble into their misfortune and so goes to Mr. Shaw to explain the whole matter and its background to him. Shaw, at least as noble as all the other protagonists in this story, goes to Horward and asks him to release his daughter so that no one is unhappy. He wanted to give the principality enough money to keep it from bankruptcy. Alice then swings up on her horse and rides to the monastery to convey the joyous message to Eleonore that Horward is free again for her. At full gallop, the horse leaps, falls and lets the princely sister fly through the air in a high arc until she crashes into a greenhouse. Now Wornozew is free for Miss Shaw too. The two couples stand in front of Eleonore's bier in mourning.

criticism

“Big, noble, like heroes, these people fight against pain and inner disappointment. Fate has ennobled their souls. Beautiful, like the wonderful landscape, the experience passes our eyes; We feel our souls moved by the images that the film drama "Seelenadel" unrolls. "
